Many people want to limit the use of harsh chemicals in their households. Homemade cleaners are a way to easily accomplish this. There are additional benefits to making your own cleaning products; reduced cost, reusing what you already have etc.
So, whether you want to reduce the number of chemicals your family is being exposed to, or just want to reduce the packaging from buying commercial products you might consider giving these recipes a try.
General Purpose Household Cleaner
What you will need:
1 quart warm water
1 teaspoon liquid hand soap
Lemon
Spray bottle
Mix all of the above together. For the lemon, you don't need a lot, just squeeze some fresh lemon juice into the re-used spray bottle with your hand soap and water. Shake it up.
Stain Remover
This stain remover is great for use on minor clothing stains in place of a store bought stain remover. It is especially useful if you find yourself with a stain and have the two ingredients needed handy. Save yourself a trip to the store by using what you already have.
What you will need:
Lemon
Cream of Tartar
Mix up the cream of tartar and lemon to create a paste like consistency. Spread your little concoction onto your stain and let it dry, then go ahead and wash your clothes as usual.
So there you have it. Clearly we are not completely chemical free here, the liquid hand soap has chemicals in it, unless you have something on hand that doesn't already in your house. BUT there are less chemicals and if you re-use your spray bottle that is a bonus and you save yourself a trip to the store in a pinch.
Do what you can...or just what you want to do.
Until the next time...
